"Love Always," Blog Tour!

This will be more of a minor book tour stop since I have a HUGE one coming up soon for you guys, but this one is still going to be amazing. "Love Always," is by Candace Knoebel and Sonya Loveday, and I was provided an ARC through Kindle in exchange for an honest review, as well as participation in their blog tour.

Review:

Let me just start out by taking a moment to scream at the top of my lungs internally, since I am typing this moments after reading the epilogue...

HOLY MILLIP I SHIP IT SO HARD. MUCH PRECIOUS. MUY BUENO. TRÉS BIEN. MANY YES. VERY GOOD.

Okay, now that I've gotten that off of my chest, let's dive in, shall we? I love the set up of this book, the beginning being in standard format, the middle being composed mostly of Maggie and Phillip's letters back and forth, and the ending being back in standard format. I guarantee that you will want to cry, laugh, throw your book or reading device, scream, fangirl(or boy), and even simply sit in a numbing state of disbelief while reading this book. SO. MANY. EMOTIONAL. ROLLERCOASTERS. I love the growth of Phillip and the freedom he is able to discover through Maggie's help, and the trust Maggie is able to give to Phillip from the bond they create. I absolutely loved this book.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars!

Recommended for both genders, 13+ due to some explicit language and mentions of adult content.

Charlie tossed back the rest of his fourth beer and asked for two more. He was going for a record tonight.
“Why don’t you just keep the cooler by you?” I asked, digging my hands through the ice again. My fingers felt like frozen popsicles by the time my hand wrapped around a can since we’d blown through the bottles he’d brought.
“Because the beer tastes better when you’re handing them to me.”
“Is that so?” I replied. A mischievous smirk crossed my lips. When he wasn’t looking, I shook his beers up and walked them over to him.
He leaned back to look up at me, a grin eating up the whole of his face. “Finally decided to succumb to me?” he jokingly asked.
“How can I resist?” I said, smiling as I cracked open the first beer, tilting it down at him, showering him in sudsy foam. He rolled out of his chair, curse words peppering the air as I cracked the second can and pointed it toward Hannah and Caleb.
“Maggie!” Hannah shrieked as she jumped out of her seat, beer covering the front of her shirt.
“Get up, you bunch of boring yuppies!” I shouted. “The night is young and the water’s warm!”
Without words, they were up on their feet, laughing and shucking out of their clothes as they headed down toward the water. I turned back to the fire, tossing the beer cans back into the cooler, when Phillip caught my eye.
He was standing up. Standing so still and so close to me that it made me draw in a sharp breath.
“Is this the part where you tell me you have some kind of superpower that allows you to move from one spot to the next without notice?” I joked, wiping my sticky hands down the front of my jeans.
There was a new look in his relaxed gaze. A look that made my heart somersault. A look of attraction and curiosity.
“Are you going with them?” he asked, his heavy eyes drifting over my face, down to my lips where they stayed.
I reflexively licked them, feeling the sun awaken beneath my skin. “Usually I do,” I replied, wondering why I suddenly felt like I had laid out in the sun all day. “How about you? Do you like to skinny dip?”
“Can’t say that I’ve tried it yet,” he said, still watching me so intensely that it made my feet want to squirm.
And my feet never squirmed.
I pushed at his shoulder, trying to dispel the heat growing between us. “Well, there’s a first time for everything, right?” I didn’t wait for his response. I just grabbed the hem of my shirt and pulled it over my head, dropping it to the sand below.
Modesty was a seven-letter word I had yet to comprehend.
I was thoroughly surprised when he didn’t look away. His gaze wasn’t even bashful like I’d assumed it would be when he roamed the length of my body, and it stirred something inside of me that had no business being stirred.
“Come on,” I said, putting my best laugh forward. “You can’t skinny dip with your clothes on.”
It was like my laugh woke him back up, because he smiled lazily, unbuttoned his shirt, and shrugged it from his shoulders, dropping it on top of mine.
“That’s better,” I said, fiddling with the button on my jeans. It took me more time than it should have, because I couldn’t keep my eyes from his perfectly tanned, perfectly chiseled abs.
I shimmied out of my jeans as quickly as I could, and then laughed when he nearly toppled over from his foot getting stuck in one of his pant legs. He grabbed onto my arms, using me to steady himself, and then we both laughed.
“My apologies,” he said, his smile reaching from ear to ear as he clung to me.
Why did I have to notice how good he smelled? Like sandalwood.
“No worries,” I said, setting him straight on his feet. Dropping down, I held his pants while he stepped out of them, trying not to think too much about how close we were. “I’ve fallen way more than I’d care to admit to anyone.”
“Come on, Maggie!” Hannah called. She was splashing and laughing as Charlie and the guys took turns shoving each other under the water.
“Are we taking off our underwear now?” Phillip asked as soon as I stood back up. I had to admit, I was momentarily shocked by his question. But he quickly recovered by adding, “Or do we do it right before we get in the water?”
I stared at him for a moment, enjoying the new sensation of shock that he brought out in me. It wasn’t often that someone thoroughly surprised me. It was fun. Enlightening.
Without answering him, I just smiled and then reached behind me, unclasping my bra and letting it fall onto the pile of clothes at my feet. A second later, I was out of my underwear, enjoying the feel of the breeze against my bare skin.
“Last person in has to clean up around the fire pit!” I shouted, turning from his wide-eyed stare and racing for the water.

Sonya Loveday—

Sonya Loveday, first and foremost is a reader, an avid one. It is of that love that brought her to purchasing her first laptop in 2009, and publishing her first novel, Casted, in 2013.
In early 2014, Sonya expanded Casted and then went on to publish Spelled, the sequel to Casted in March, wrapping up the series, and her stint with Paranormal Romance. For now.
Not long after the completion to the Casted Series, Sonya tried her hand at New Adult/Coming of Age, a sub-genre of Contemporary Romance. Thusly, the Six were born with The Summer I Fell, which released at the end of July 2014. The demand from readers was instantaneously, which brought about End Note, the second book of the series in December 2014, and book three, If Ever I Fall, in June 2015.
To date, Sonya lives in Central Florida with her husband, and two kids, and is currently working on the fourth book of the Six Series. Be sure to keep an eye out for upcoming news on Sonya's website!

"Life on the Edge" Review

Hey guys, I hope you are all doing wonderfully. I apologize for being sparse with my blog posts, but with school starting back, as well as all my sports and clubs, I have not found much time to read, much to my dismay. That is only partially the reason that I chose to not finish this book FOR THE TIME BEING! I received this book from Blogging For Books in exchange for an honest review, which can be found in the following text. Just for clarification, this post is on "Life on the Edge" by Johnjoe McFadden and Jim Al-Khalili, under the representation of Crown Publishing Company.

Here is my reason (other than what is notated above):

This book deals with quantum biology, the application of the Quantum Theory, as well as quantum mechanics, to the mysteries of biology. Being that I just started my first true chemistry course this year (I'm in the 10th grade), I have not learned of this yet. And while I did essentially grow up in a laboratory with my father being a chemist, some of the things that were described where simply just too difficult to try and fully comprehend, which is a fault on no one's end.

HOWEVER...of what I did read of this book and understand, I thoroughly enjoyed it, being the lover of the sciences that I am. The authors do such an amazing job of trying to compare the weird world and qualities of the quantum world to everyday things that we come into contact with to help make it easier to understand what is happening.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars, for the reason listed above. Since I have yet to complete this work, however, I will be posting an updated rating and review once I get back around to reading it.

Book Cover and Synopsis:

Life is the most extraordinary phenomenon in the known universe; but how does it work? Even in this age of cloning and synthetic biology, the remarkable truth remains: nobody has ever made anything living entirely out of dead material. Life remains the only way to make life. Are we missing a vital ingredient in its creation? Like Richard Dawkins' The Selfish Gene, which provided a new perspective on how evolution works, Life on the Edge alters our understanding of life's dynamics. Bringing together first-hand experience of science at the cutting edge with unparalleled gifts of exposition and explanation, Jim Al-Khalili and Johnjoe Macfadden reveal the hitherto missing ingredient to be quantum mechanics and the strange phenomena that lie at the heart of this most mysterious of sciences. Drawing on recent ground-breaking experiments around the world, they show how photosynthesis relies on subatomic particles existing in many places at once, while inside enzymes, those workhorses of life that make every molecule within our cells, particles vanish from one point in space and instantly materialize in another. Each chapter in Life on the Edge opens with an engaging example that illustrates one of life's puzzles - How do migrating birds know where to go? How do we really smell the scent of a rose? How do our genes manage to copy themselves with such precision? and then reveals how quantum mechanics delivers its answer. Guiding the reader through the maze of rapidly unfolding discovery, Al-Khalili and McFadden communicate vividly the excitement of this explosive new field of quantum biology, with its potentially revolutionary applications, and also offer insights into the biggest puzzle of all: what is life? As they brilliantly demonstrate here, life lives on the quantum edge.

Recommended? Yes, absolutely, to anyone who loves chemistry, biology, quantum physics, or even just science in general. It is such a captivating read. However, I do give an age suggestion of 15-16 and up, simply due to how complex the subject matter is.

"Peak" by Roland Smith

Hey guys! I just finished this amazing book a little over an hour ago and oh my goodness. This book is the definition of a true character transformation, and not only in the main character, Peak Marcello, but also in the other supporting characters that come along during his expedition up the tallest mountain in the world, and to the highest point on Earth: Mount Everest in the Himalayan Mountain Range. Here is the synopsis for you guys!

The only thing you’ll find on the summit of Mount Everest is a divine view. The things that really matter lie far below. – Peak Marcello
After fourteen-year-old Peak Marcello is arrested for scaling a New York City skyscraper, he's left with two choices: wither away in Juvenile Detention or go live with his long-lost father, who runs a climbing company in Thailand. But Peak quickly learns that his father's renewed interest in him has strings attached. Big strings. As owner of Peak Expeditions, he wants his son to be the youngest person to reach the Everest summit--and his motives are selfish at best. Even so, for a climbing addict like Peak, tackling Everest is the challenge of a lifetime. But it's also one that could cost him his life.

Roland Smith has created one of the best realistic fiction pieces that I have honestly ever read, taking me along an icy, heart racing, breathless adventure set  in the Himalayan Mountains, on one of the most dangerous and sought-after excursions in the world: climbing Everest. As earlier stated in this post, I mentioned the pristine character development, not only in Peak, but also in Joshua Wood, his father, and Holly Angelo, a New York reporter who seems to want to only climb Everest to get an exclusive story on Peak. However, as the story develops and unfolds, Joshua begins to realize what it truly means to be a father, and how he had messed up in the past. On the other hand, the eccentric and outrageous Holly learns what it feels like to feel alone, even when surrounded by hundreds of people. She learns that people are not merely pawns in a chess game, or newspaper stories just waiting to be written; each person has their own story to share and to create, and it's all based on how they act and react. It was amazing to see how humbled she became by seeing just how small she and her problems were compared to the majestic mountain. As for Peak, well, let's just say he learns that friendship and selflessness is more important than glory or fame, any day. (And just a side note, I love his loving brotherly relationship with his younger sisters. It's so heartwarming to see an older sibling having so much care for them when nowadays, it's more common to see a sibling feud.)

Rating: 4.5 out of 5

Recommended? Absolutely, from ages 8-10+ (Younger than 10 is dependent on how well they handle vocabulary challenges, but even then, younger children will enjoy the adventure side of it)

The only reason I deducted a half-point was because at sometimes I felt that certain situations while they were ascending and descending the mountain were confusing, due to the fact that I am not a climber, and a lot of the terms used weren't necessarily clarified. (It doesn't really bother me since I can simply look it up on my Kindle, but for some younger readers who might be reading this may have a harder time trying to figure out what exactly the context is describing.) Other than that, this book, in my opinion, couldn't have been written any better. There was fairly little "cursing", if any at all, and the words used weren't vulgar.

Well my book cubs, that wraps up this post for today. Next I will be moving onto "Life On The Edge" by JohnJoe McFadden and Jim Al-Khalili.

As always, much love,

Catheryn
